STS carried out a seminar entitled "Outlook of ICT in Saud Arabia (in Arabic)", presented by Prof. Ibrahim Al-Kadi, Senior adviser to the CITC , inaugurated by  Prof. Abdel Aziz Ben Salem Ruwais, Chairman of STS borad of directors and Deputy of King Saud University.

HHP Faisal Bin Saud Bin Mohammed Al-Saud is the Honorary Chairman of the STS

HHP Faisal Bin Saud Bin Mohammed Al-Saud  received the Chairman and
Board of Directors of the STS at his palace in Riyadh on 12/12/ 2007, where
future plans and ways to support STS has been discussed with the aim of
achieving the ambitious goals of our government to incubate technology and help in creating a national Knowledge Economy. At the end of the meeting, the chairman and Board of Directors expressed their appreciation toHHP Faisal  for accepting to be the Honorary Chairman of STS
and for his encouragement, support and guidance.

STS  carried out an open Seminar entitled  "Telecom Sector Reform in KSA-Towards Full Market Liberalization" presented by HE Prof. M. Al-Suwaiyel, Governor of CITC . More on the presentation

Over the last three decades, there has been an overwhelming progress in the Communication and Information Technology (CIT) fields. Such progress has resulted from the great advancement in microelectronics as well as the remarkable achievements in Computer hardware and software. It has become clear to everyone how important the role that Telecommunications and Technology play in our modern life. The far-reaching effects they have on our economy and our social lives justify the worldwide interest in these topics. And, as a result, there are research and development activities, technical meetings, workshops, symposia and specialized conferences held around the clock everywhere in the world for the study of these subjects. The military and security applications of CIT have reached a new horizon; and became clear that they play a prominent and decisive role in today's battlefields.

Establishing The Saudi Telecommunication Society

King Saud University Council, in its fourth meeting, held on 27-10-1423AH, has approved establishing The Saudi Telecommunications Society (STS) as one of the specialized scientific societies. The membership is open to all communications engineers and professionals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as detailed in the Saudi Scientific Society bylaws. On May 2, 2006, the first board of directors has been elected by the Society General Assembly.


   Mission and Activities

1.Participating in feasibility studies, preparation of technical specifications, etc.

2. Investigating potential areas for possible telecommunications services improvement.

3. Training, in the form of short courses, seminars, workshops, etc.

4. Contributing to the evaluation of telecommunications and information technology policy issues and assisting Government agencies when requested.

5. Promoting awareness of telecommunications and information technology issues among the public and contributing to sustainable development in the Kingdom.

6. Supporting collaborative research between Universities and industry to maximize the intellectual capacity in the Kingdom to meet the global challenges in Information & Communications Sciences and Technologies.

7. Organizing seminars, symposia, workshops and conferences on telecommunications technical and societal issues with the assistance of local, regional and international sponsors.

 8. Publishing digests, directories, posters, flyers, conference proceedings, magazines and journals, and special issues of existing University journals to to disseminate research results.


What is New?

Following the publication of its Report 2007 , which summarises the outcome of the MTHR programme to date, the Programme Management Committee now invites interested parties to submit outline proposals to carryout research under a second phase of the programme (MTHR2).
